I recently purchased a DICE/VIDA from ebay. And then tried to chase down a laptop which had XP on it just to ensure i had no issues installing. Long story short COULD NOT get VIDA 2012a installed onto windows XP pro SP3 no matter how many different instructions i tried and unintalls of MSXML.net or SQL express, even wiped the machine 3 times to try different variants of software install sequences. Gave up and installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit, ran the VIDA install straight from a fresh Windows install and had absolutely no problems. NO Virtual machine, xp mode or compatiblility mode, just straight into WIndows 7 So just giving you guys a heads up.
On a seperate note, is there a way to remove the 'stop neutral' instruction with VIDA('china version')? I'm still kinda meddling my way around it and i'm not sure how to read error codes, i have an issue where my DSTC service required comes on erratically and i'm trying to find out why.

I just tried to install 2012B on a windows 7 machine and it didn't work. It maybe it only works on ultimate?

I got mine to run Windows 7 Pro SP1 with NO Virtual machine use. I had to run the apps as administrator.

There is a thread on the forum about a UART driver update (included below) and once I loaded up that,success! The Diagapp.exe was able to connect with the DiCE box. However, when I connect the OBDII to the XC90, it immediately throws a BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE! Code, which is kinda ironic since that is the last code I saw before my V70R burnt to the ground in a ball of flame. So not sure what is going on there with the ODB cable/plug I might try it on another Volvo when I get the chance I guess.
